VICTORIA — Evan Pivnick, clean energy program manager at Clean Energy Canada, made the following statement in response to the new report from Ontario’s electrification and energy transition panel:
“Today’s report marks an important juncture in the development of Ontario energy policy. Across 29 recommendations, the panel has provided a high-level roadmap for the reforms Ontario should consider in order to navigate the energy transition successfully.
“Chief among these recommendations is creating policy certainty by clearly articulating the government’s vision and objectives for a clean economy between now and 2050. Only by aligning its approach on climate, energy, and economic policy will the province be able to cost-effectively transition its energy system and fully seize the resultant affordability and economic benefits.
“Another key recommendation is to develop and regularly renew a new long-term energy strategy. Such strategies are increasingly common in places navigating the transition effectively—and will be critical in actioning these recommendations.
“The panel should be commended for its thoughtful and collaborative work in providing a path forward for the province. We look forward to working with Ontario as it joins a growing list of provinces in building a more sustainable economy.”
