Guide helps Canada’s condo dwellers choose electric with confidence

TORONTO — A newly updated guide will help the millions of Canadians who live in condominiums—and those who oversee such properties—overcome the unique challenges that have long limited their access to at-home electric-vehicle (EV) charging.

Plug’n Drive and Clean Energy Canada teamed up for Make Your Condo EV Ready: The 2025 Guide for Condo Owners, Boards and Managers, released today. The free guide walks condo building decision-makers through the research, planning, and implementation steps needed to navigate issues such as shared ownership and install EV chargers in their parkades.

“A maze of technical, regulatory, governance, and other barriers have long been concerns for the one-third of Canadians who live in multi-unit residential buildings (MURB) and who want to charge their electric vehicles at home overnight. This guide equips residents, EV drivers, future EV drivers, and building stakeholders with the practical tools and information they need to confidently navigate and lower those barriers.” —Cara Clairman, president and CEO, Plug’n Drive

“With the cost of public charging two to eight times higher than charging at home, supporting home charging access means helping more Canadians purchase an EV and unlock the thousands of dollars in annual fuel and maintenance savings that come with it. This is especially relevant as the majority of Canadians aged 18 to 44 are inclined to go electric according to a recent Clean Energy Canada survey, the very group that is most likely to live in MURBs and face their unique regulatory and administrative barriers to installing a charger. This new resource can help close the condo charging gap for those who want EVs most.” —Rachel Doran, executive director, Clean Energy Canada

“Scotiabank is proud to sponsor Make Your Condo EV Ready, as part of our commitment to enable Canadians to adopt sustainability practices. Through our retail banking services, we will continue to offer financing and advisory solutions for clients looking to factor environmental considerations into their vehicle purchasing decisions which may also help save money over time.” —Kim Brand, vice president and head of global sustainable business, Scotiabank

Make Your Condo EV Ready outlines best practices, technical considerations, legal requirements, and funding opportunities—with dedicated sections for British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec.
