Submission: Ontario Critical Minerals Framework Discussion Paper

The growing demand for electric vehicle batteries and clean energy is an economic and environmental opportunity for Ontario. With the demand for battery minerals projected to grow between 20 and 40 times by 2040, Ontario can play a role as a supplier of responsibly produced minerals to support the energy transition.

However, Ontario can—and should—go further than just supplying the world with its raw materials. The province should also focus on how to leverage its existing strengths in auto manufacturing, clean electricity, mining and innovation to develop a domestic battery and electric vehicle supply chain.

This submission includes recommendations for how Ontario can reap the significant economic and environmental benefits that accompany the shift towards clean vehicles.
