Alberta demonstrates it has the right recipe for renewable power

EDMONTON — Dan Woynillowicz, policy director at Clean Energy Canada, made the following statement in response to the first round results of Alberta’s Renewable Electricity Program:

“These results were literally record-breaking—the lowest wind power prices in Canadian history. It just goes to show that when you combine a great renewable energy resource, steadily falling technology costs and a policy framework that provides certainty and drives competition, renewable power can deliver the cheapest electricity.

“The successful companies in this round include an Alberta-based firm as well as international ones. It’s a testament to Alberta’s renewable energy opportunity that it can attract global interest and investment.

“Cleaning up Alberta’s electricity system with abundant, reliable and affordable renewable power can help put people back to work. This is just the first round, and with more to come, the results bode well for future rounds that will cumulatively deliver 5,000 MW of renewable power—or 30 per cent of Alberta’s electricity—by 2030.”
