Clean Energy Canada | U.S.-Canada approach to building a clean economy together is our best path forward

VICTORIA — Merran Smith, executive director at Clean Energy Canada, made the following statement in response to a new Partnership Roadmap:

“Whether building a stronger Canadian economy or fighting climate change, one maxim has always held true: we’re better off working together.

“The partnership roadmap announced today by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Joe Biden uses that truth as its very foundation.

“A closer, cleaner trade relationship between our two countries will create opportunities in manufacturing EVs and batteries, for our already competitive clean technology sector, for Canada’s low-carbon materials, and for our clean electricity—which America will need more of as it aims to decarbonize its grid entirely by 2035. 

“The scale of this is generation-defining, representing an opportunity not only for our economy at large but for the skilled Canadian workers who make it all real.

“Developing an EV battery supply chain will anchor Canada’s existing auto sector and ensure we capture the jobs and value created in the transition to electric vehicles, while also supporting our mining sector and helping grow new industries.

“The clean economy is bigger than any single sector, larger than any one country, and a road best taken together.”
