Clean Energy Canada | Policies to drive shift from fossil fuels to clean power must follow Site C decision

VICTORIA — Dan Woynillowicz, policy director at Clean Energy Canada, made the following statement in response to the B.C. government’s decision to complete the Site C dam:

“This decision was clearly difficult for Premier Horgan and his government, and hopefully no future government finds itself in a situation like this.

“The priority now must be to integrate this decision into the government’s broader agenda and vision for the province, from reconciliation with First Nations to increased efforts to address climate change.

“Every credible study on cutting carbon pollution says the same thing: switching from fossil fuels to clean electricity is key for deep reductions. From heating homes and buildings to powering electric cars and industry, electricity is foundational to our low-carbon future.

“The government must now put in place the policies and programs that will ensure the power generated by Site C can be used to cut carbon pollution and deliver clean growth and prosperity across the province.”
