Clean Energy Canada | Media Release: New Clean Energy Canada "Renewably Powered LNG" Radio Campaign Takes to the Airwaves
February 13, 2014
The Government of British Columbia could create more permanent jobs in the north coast and produce less pollution if it required liquefied natural gas (LNG) companies to power their plants with renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
That’s the simple message currently bouncing around taxicabs, barber shops, diners, and offices from Vancouver to Kelowna to Kitimat as part of an irreverent new Clean Energy Canada radio campaign intended to highlight the benefits of renewable power in LNG production.
“Tuesday’s speech from the throne referenced ‘environmental actions to help make B.C.’s LNG industry the cleanest in the world,’” said Merran Smith, director of Clean Energy Canada. “This radio campaign highlights a few ideas—like powering the proposed plants with renewable energy—as steps that will help the province meet its commitment.”
The three advertisements feature a fictional couple teasing one another about the role that renewables can play in the province’s proposed LNG industry. Here they are, have a listen:
The radio advertisements are running this week and into next week on stations in Metro Vancouver, Kitimat, Prince Rupert, Prince George, and Terrace.
The ads direct listeners to the online home of Lock In Jobs, Not Pollution, Clean Energy Canada’s recent report. That study outlines the employment and climate benefits that the provincial government can realize if it directs LNG producers to maximize the use of renewable energy in their facilities.
