Clean Energy Canada | New task force of clean industry associations launches with a vision of Canada as a clean energy superpower
October 16, 2025

TORONTO—Sent on behalf of the One Canadian Clean Economy Task Force, for which Clean Energy Canada serves as secretariat:

As Canada navigates both economic headwinds and global opportunities—from rapidly shifting trade relationships to projects of national significance—a new task force composed of clean economy industry associations and organizations has officially launched today, with an action plan for governments scheduled to release later this fall.

The One Canadian Clean Economy Task Force is made up of members representing companies across critical minerals, batteries, clean transportation, clean buildings, forest products, clean electricity, and clean technology.

As its name suggests, the task force’s forthcoming recommendations will include solutions to help build one clean, competitive Canadian economy. Actions in the plan will focus on enhancing policy alignment, building enabling infrastructure, and increasing demand and investment.

Overwhelmingly, Canada’s largest non-U.S. trade partners are building their own clean economies, backed by net-zero commitments, carbon pricing systems, mandatory climate disclosure requirements for public companies, and carbon border adjustments on imported goods. Global dollars tell a similar story: in 2025, two-thirds of total worldwide energy investment will go toward clean energy technologies and infrastructure.

The task force’s message is clear: if Canada is to build a stronger nation, a clean economy must be at the centre of it.

Quotes from Task Force members

“The battery industry is poised to be a cornerstone of Canada’s clean economy and essential to positioning the country as a clean energy superpower. Realizing this potential, however, will require a range of bold actions including building supporting infrastructure and facilitating workforce development. With a well-coordinated and strategic approach, Canada can foster the development of clean industries that attract investment, fuel innovation, strengthen resilience, and drive sustainable growth.” —Sean DeVries, Executive Director, Battery Metals Association of Canada

“Focusing on sectors that will help meet the needs of a decarbonizing world is key—and Canada has the technical expertise to be a global player. However, decarbonization relies on having a skilled and future-ready workforce. Major labour shortages in key occupations are currently hurdles to speeding up clean energy projects across the country. As federal and provincial governments join forces to lower labour mobility barriers, it’s important to focus on clean economic sectors ready for the growth of one Canadian economy. These sectors and their workers should be a priority in these efforts.” —Mark Chapeskie, Vice President of Programs, Electricity Human Resources Canada

“Realizing Canada’s future prosperity and security means placing a clean economy at the heart of our nation-building efforts. This task force brings together leaders who know how to streamline and incentivize trade and ensure investment can flow more easily into the sectors our trading partners are increasingly prioritizing.” —Rachel Doran, Executive Director, Clean Energy Canada
