Clean Energy Canada | Media Statement: Transit and Transportation Infrastructure Still Needs Sustainable Funding
July 2, 2015
Today Elections B.C. announced that the Metro Vancouver Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation Proposal failed to secure the necessary majority support of voters in the March plebiscite.
The following comments may be attributed to Dan Woynillowicz, Policy Director at Clean Energy Canada:
- “While we’re obviously disappointed with the plebiscite outcome, little has actually changed; Metro Vancouver still needs stable, long-term transportation funding.”
- “Congestion is not only frustrating for drivers, cyclists, and transit users alike, it is costing the region more than $1.2 billion in lost potential economic benefits. That’s an opportunity cost that the provincial government simply can’t afford to ignore.”
- “The province has a range of other creative funding options and we look forward to hearing how it will move forward to give the Mayor’s Plan the support it needs.”
