VANCOUVER — Merran Smith, executive director, and Dan Woynillowicz, policy director at Clean Energy Canada, made the following statements in response to the B.C. government’s launch of CleanBC, the province’s new climate change and clean growth plan:
“The true test of a government’s climate change plan is whether it puts us on course to cut pollution while building momentum for our transition to clean energy. CleanBC provides a roadmap to do just that, and with a clear commitment to deliver results, the B.C. government and B.C. Greens are poised to resurrect our province’s role as a climate leader. This is what responsible leadership looks like.
“And honestly, British Columbians should be excited. Electric cars, more efficient homes: don’t think of these as green alternatives—think of them as upgrades. The B.C. government is helping British Columbians transition to better versions of the same thing with a smaller carbon footprint—not to mention a lower monthly energy bill.”
— Merran Smith, Executive Director
“Climate change will cost the world immensely—but climate solutions are a generation-defining opportunity. Not only does B.C.’s plan help cut pollution and the costs of climate change, it’s economically smart. In business, you want to be Netflix, not Blockbuster—you want to look forward.
“Today’s announcement is a milestone. It’s a comprehensive plan with clear goals and timelines, committed funding, and new accountability measures. It’s a plan that should give British Columbians confidence.”
—Dan Woynillowicz, Policy Director
