Clean Energy Canada | B.C.’s economic recovery plan scales up climate efforts
September 17, 2020
VICTORIA — Merran Smith, executive director at Clean Energy Canada, made the following statement regarding the province of B.C.’s newly announced economic recovery plan:
“The plan announced today, which includes support for various clean energy and pollution-cutting initiatives as well as climate adaptation, helps British Columbia continue along the path of the province’s CleanBC vision. A healthy, sustainable economy and climate action need to go hand in hand.
“Countries around the world are developing recovery plans with big investments to build cleaner, more competitive economies. B.C. has long been a leader in this regard, and it’s vital that we maintain our competitiveness in developing and delivering climate solutions.
“The support announced today for electrifying commercial and industrial transport will help bring companies and industry into the present. With transportation responsible for over a third of provincial emissions, these efforts will help combat a serious source of pollution in B.C. Additionally, funding set aside for made-in-B.C. clean technology will help our world-leading clean energy companies continue to compete as they sell their solutions both at home and abroad.
“Ultimately, this funding—alongside additional investments we hope to see in Budget 2021—will help ensure B.C. retains its position in an increasingly competitive clean energy race, while safeguarding our homes and our shared backyard.”
